Yesterday (8/8/12), I saw one of OWS’s twitter accounts ripping apart Moveon.org for them asking for money and using “Occupy” sayings/logic/platforms to get Obama re-elected, and said, “money isn’t activism,” which I agree with, and I personally dislike MoveOn as well. However, this comes after and while OWS has been asking for monetary donations to support the people working for Occupy, basically. I asked them to stop being such hypocrites. They continued asking for donations. I even mentioned how certain Occupations stopped taking monetary donations and would only accept material donations instead, and that some of us who “work” for Occupy have never asked for a single penny.
It really just makes me question my involvement in the movement. It also makes me believe “Occupy Wall Street” isn’t the be all, end all decision maker of the entire movement. They were just an idea, and many cities across the world have taken the idea of “occupy” and made it their own. To those cities - keep doing what you’re doing. To OWS - get it the fuck together and stop being a bunch of god damned hypocrites.
